Conjecture 2012

I have been working on pieces for a convention coming up, Conjecture, which is why there hasn't been much up here lately. If you're in the San Diego, Mission Valley, area please stop by! I'll be there doing sketches and selling artwork. Maybe YOU could get a "Nick Feretich" original!

Animation

Hey all!

I know I said a while ago I would be posting my animations here, but I've had a change of heart. I know it's been around for a while, and a couple animation buddies of mine swear by it when it comes to broader distribution. I'm talking about Vimeo! I really enjoy the site and seeing what other people have up, so, if you want to see any animations of mine, which I'll be pumpin' out more of soon, head over to:

https://vimeo.com/heygafilimore

so, keep checking back for more posts here, I should be putting things up on a weekly basis. And if anyone's looking to contract someone for some animation work, I'm your man!

Hippothetically Speaking...

So, I have to get a root canal, and I can't do anything about it until Friday. So, my doctor gave me some pain medication to help until then, because without it, I can't even chew without being under intense pain (there's a point to this, I swear). Now, I don't get high off this stuff, but it puts me out there a bit. I was trying to say, "hypothetical" but I said, "hippothetical" instead. My friends and I lost it, and someone told me to try drawing it.

How could I say no? It's just too funny!

So here we are...

Bow Down

Working on some homework for class and I wanted to make it Game of Thrones related, so I drew this up. This would be a sign you'd see in Kings Landing after season 2. I really want to read the books, I think it's something I could really sink my teeth into. Anyway, enjoy my art! Please!

Oh, Marceline, why you so mean?

"I'm not mean, I'm a thousand years old and I just lost sense of my moral code."

I love the character, Marceline, on Adventure Time. She is arguably my favorite character, close though with Ice King. Anyway, just thought I'd throw this up here, gotta get back to work!

Misadventurous

Behold, another t-shirt idea! This one took more time than the "Generations" shirt, and I'm very happy with the result.

For this idea, we decided to do a mash up, and we felt the comic, "Calvin and Hobbes" mixed very well with the cartoon, "The Misadventures of Flapjack." Both Calvin and Flapjack are incredibly adventurous, have wild imaginations, and can find fun in just about everything.

In terms of art direction, I wanted to mix both the styles of the comic and the cartoon. The comic takes, what I feel is, a very messy yet organized approach to the drawings. Line weight is important and while not every line completes to form the object, the reader can still keep following it to complete the shape and it totally works. The cartoon, however, uses very thick lines and is very graphic in detail. The cartoon also uses very little shadow, and instead favors hatching in shadows.

I like the way the shading came in, and I feel it's about as close to the middle-ground as you're gonna get between these two concepts. Anyway, loved this project, and like I said before, I love "Calvin and Hobbes", and I love "The Misadventures of Flapjack", and I want to thank the creators Bill Watterson and Thurop Van Orman for bringing these guys into my life! :D

Generations of Animation

This, my friends, is a piece called "Generations of Animation", a t-shirt submission of mine to the t-shirt company Teefury. A friend of mine approached me the other day about working together on ideas to submit to this site so we can start getting our names out there.

The money is nice too hahaha...

So naturally, I said yeah, and this is our first submission. We both love cartoons, past and present, and I'm also an Animation major, so this one was a no brainer. We wanted to show were animation used to be, what it was like then, and where we've gotten to now.

I still look at this and think, "wow, we've really gone from an anthropomorphic mouse, to a robot truck, to a noodle-arm boy and his elastic dog. There's never really been a shortage of creativity in my eyes, and I hope we keep rolling with this and come up with great ideas. I also hope I'm able to be a part of all of that in some way!

Keep your eyes peeled for more submissions, as we're currently on break right now so I have all the time in the world to pump some more designs out! :D

Still Not Listening...

This is my major project for my web animation class, we had to take audio from the 11 Second Club and animate to it in flash. I created the barbarian character before this month's contest started, and once I heard the audio, I knew I had a good fit! I just needed a second character, and a smaller wizard was a great counter to the big, strong barbarian.

It's great too, because an educated wizard never uses his magic unless he absolutely needs to. Can you imagine if Gandalf was pulling some Balrog-esque shit in the Shire? Hobbit corpses, hobbit corpses everywhere. So we see as the video progresses that the wizard is getting frustrated beyond belief because he isn't getting the attention he is trying to command. He's a small guy, and the smaller guys don't usually get to command attention, they have to go the extra mile, sometimes they have to do something BIG.

Magic is pretty big...

Going Commando

The quarter is done with and I officially have A LOT of free time! And that can only mean two things, lots more drawing, and I get to rock some Old Republic! This game is incredibly fun and I really enjoy the Trooper class. Maybe it's speaks something of my character, or maybe it means I'm a pansy, but I can't play bad or evil characters in any RPG I play, I just can't do it. I'll never play anything other than a Paragon in Mass Effect, Hawke and my Hero of Ferelden are the nicest guys around, etc., etc.

I attempted a Sith Warrior for a time, and I hated what I was doign and the people I had to work with, Imperial scum! So, I'm really enjoying things with my trooper and hope to level cap him before I get more work to do.

Fingers crossed!

Prince Apophas

Behold, the HORROR! Prince Apophas, of the Tomb Kings army makes his way on to my humble blogspot! He is a lord of the army and a potential buy for me. I think it's great that his body is made up entirely of scarabs, very creepy too.

Can you imagine if his body was made up of scabs? I think that would drastically alter the dynamics of his "being"...

Just takes one typo to mess it all up

Temple Guard!

I just finished painting the standard bearer for these guys and I thought I'd give him the proper treatment by drawing him. I enjoy drawing these guys, they're muscular, but have the features of a lizard in that they are scaly, point, and leathery. Suppose that's why they're called LIZARDMEN.

Who knows...

Might be a little while until a new picture comes along, but in the meantime I may or may not start collecting for a new army. I'm addicited, man.

More Robots!

I wasn't joking before, I really love me some bots! Flexing my Flash muscles hahaha

Oscar the Robot

I love robots! Just finished watching the 2005 film and remembered I did an animation a while back of a robot I created. I love the name Oscar, and I think the name works for a big fat robot haha. Short little clip, enjoy!

Lord of the Rings: Two Towers

One of my favorite scenes from Lord of the Rings (which one isn't?), I love the relationship between Gimli and Legolas. In just about any lore you read, elves and dwarves hate each other. To put this budding friendship in the epic story that is LotR is nothing short of genius. It shows that despite the breaking off at the end of the first book, the fellowship that was formed means something. I think Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn's trials and tribulations are some of the best in the whole story. Sorry, just get tired of Frodo complaining and Sam crying sometimes hahaha. Although, when Frodo told Sam to go home, I did shed a tear, a manly tear.

Skinks

Just picked up a box of Skinks a few weeks ago for my Lizardmen army. These guys are really cool because they are super fast and awesome at harassing the enemy. They either use blow darts or javelins, and I gotta go with the poison darts.

I picked up some Temple Guards and a few other guys, I'll have to do drawings for 'em too. Also, workin' on something big!

Oldies but Goodies

Not knocking today's Nintendo titles TOO much, but I think we can all agree that just about everything prior to the N64 was absolute gold. I love titles from every console they've put out, but it seems lately that Nintendo is either living in their own fantasy world or only hearing half of what their users are telling them. I'm not looking for a quick fix, but how long is this gonna take?

Ugh, ranting, gotta stop.

So I thought I'd put my own style on some classic characters. ENJOY!
